Job description

Family Support Therapist

Closing date: 25 March 2024

As part of the hospice’s crucial Family Support Team, you will be part of the service providing a comprehensive psycho-social service to families in complex situations. You will come in to contact with and offer support to children, young adults up to the age of 35 years, their parents, carers and extended family.

Key Responsibilities

The Family Support Team is part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team and consists of social work, counsellors, a play therapist and creative arts counsellor and a chaplain. We all work closely as a team, sharing duty tasks as well as working autonomously in our own fields. We work with children, young adults and their families from the point of referral to bereavement and beyond. Your support to an individual or family will be tailored to their very specific needs. You will provide expert counselling services, facilitate a range of support groups, contribute to the MDT alongside helping to manage a small team of trained volunteer counsellors.

With a recognised degree level or equivalent qualification in Psychotherapy, Counselling Psychology or a Health/Applied Psychology qualification and membership of BACP or UKCP, you need significant experience of working with bereavement, and good understanding of palliative care.  In addition, the role demands excellent communication skills, adaptability, compassion and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working hours may vary, with the occasional out of hours commitment and a degree of flexibility with a minimum 22.5 hours can also be considered. Full Driving Licence is vital as we cover a very wide geographical area.
