Job Summary
Under the direction of the Sr Manager – Rig Support, the IT Field Engineer will provide support via a roaming/rotating offshore position. IT Field Engineer will be supporting the IT offshore client infrastructure (computer hardware, software, and communications) and other technology-related activities supporting Global offshore operations including standardization, compliance, and support for the Global offshore IT perspective on priority for technology-related activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Visits offshore locations to support IT department including troubleshooting, resolve and document concerns and issues, check and perform root cause analysis as required.
- Carries out and maintains survey reports, checks and documents required from offshore visit.
- Supports installation and configuration of hardware and software as required.
- Supports implementing network and security procedures for safeguarding systems
- Contributes to the development of hardware, software, and security technology standards.
- Assists, guides, and communications to other departments on the rigs for changes to the IT systems.
- Works with offshore teams to identify areas of concern and formulate plan to resolve areas of concern.
- Reviews how IT tools are being used and provide advice on use and return concerns on non-use
- In collaboration with the Sr Manager – Rig Support, develops annual technology goals and objectives.
- Assists in shipyard work scope execution with other members of the IT group, as required.
- Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and HSEQ procedures.
- Manages, organizes, and controls the assembly, completion, and start-up work at site in such a manner that the entire scope meets all objectives regarding safety, functionality, environment, cost, schedule, work environment and quality.
Qualifications / Experience
- 3+ years of professional experience in an IT Support role
- 2+ years of experience in working in an offshore\marine environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Communication and presentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or experience equivalent
Skills & Experience
- Advanced knowledge of personal computer hardware, Microsoft desktop operating systems and peripheral equipment such as printers, drivers, monitors, keyboards, and scanners.
- Knowledge of working with Android devices including tablets, Raspberry Pi etc.
- Working knowledge of servers, networking, IOT, PLC hardware and the ability to identify physical network and IOT devices to enable remote parties in carrying out maintenance and upgrade tasks
- Thorough knowledge of Local Area Network fundamentals.
- Basic knowledge of IP networking fundamentals including routing protocols, addressing, and name resolution (such as DHCP, and DNS).
- Understands how to read network and other schematic drawings and ability to prepare same.
- Experience in creation and testing of interconnecting cable/technologies.
- Familiarity with network diagnostic equipment.
- Ability and knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve the network infrastructure issues.
- Basic project management skills for managing concurrent projects, meeting deadline, following existing scope of works and ability to create same.
- Ability to work independently, self-learn, and in conjunction with other disciplines and departments on and offshore, perform thorough problem analysis for hardware and software.
