We are seeking a new Head of the School of Engineering at Lancaster University from 1st August 2024 for 4 years, with the possibility of renewal for a further four years.

This is an exciting time for the School of Engineering at Lancaster University and this post represents an excellent leadership opportunity. Engineering at Lancaster has undergone a significant period of expansion over the last five years as part of a Growth Plan. This has culminated in the creation of a School of Engineering and the opening of a superb ‘Engineering Two’ building and facilities, focused on a range of engineering research, engagement and teaching activity. We have added around 20 new staff over the last five years and a further 20 academic staff are planned. As the new Head of School you will have the opportunity to provide leadership for this further expansion, as well as capitalize on the enhanced capacity for research, teaching and external engagement afforded by the new facilities.

The Head of School provides academic leadership; encourages excellence in teaching, research and engagement; manages and develops the School, its staff and its activities through the most effective and efficient use of resources to deliver the School and University strategies; and represents the School within the University and externally. Further details of the post are included in the role description.

Applicants will normally be Professorial level staff. However, applicants at Senior Lecturer level will be considered on an exceptional basis. Applications should be submitted through our HR recruitment system Stonefish by Friday 8th March 2024.

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the opportunity, please do contact the Executive Dean, Professor Peter M. Atkinson, or the current Head of School, Professor Sarah Green.

We are committed to promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across the Faculty, and supporting family-friendly, flexible and agile working policies on an individual basis. The School holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice to address gender equality in Higher Education.

The role attracts a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
