The Role
We are seeking a capable and enthusiastic Facilities Engineer to provide high-level mechanical and electrical maintenance expertise. You will support our new research facility on Milton Park, as well as laboratories and offices at our site on Oxford Science Park. Playing a key role in our Facilities & Operations team, you will work closely with Lab Operations and HSE, plus a range of scientific stakeholders.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering a customer-focused, effective and efficient service. You will carry out and coordinate work activities with contractors to deliver planned and reactive maintenance. Additionally, a key part of the role will be managing contracted works such as reviewing RAMS, issuing permits and site supervision.
Please note this is a full-time, site-based role so regular travel is required to both of our Oxford, UK sites (5 days per week in OX4 4GE and OX14 4SD). You must be willing to provide support to the site in the event of out-of-hours emergencies in line with our call-out rota. There is flexibility to work from home approx. 1-2 days per month.
A full, clean driver’s licence and own vehicle is highly desirable.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Get hands-on with a broad variety of equipment and systems, providing learning opportunities and potential for growth.
- Use your technical knowledge on a day-to-day basis whilst also handling contract management challenges.
- Complete and coordinate scheduled planned maintenance activities and minor repairs and alterations according to required standards and response times.
- Carry out competent person / authorised person duties for relevant systems.
- Prepare equipment for thorough examination in line with the inspection company's schedule, ensuring Plant Not Available reports are kept to an absolute minimum.
- Carry out mechanical duties, fault finding, repairs and alterations, ensuring systems are always safe and repairs are completed in a cost-effective manner.
Essential skills:
- City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent technical qualification in plumbing, electrical installation or mechanical engineering.
- Recognised apprenticeship in a plumbing, electrical, engineering or mechanical role.
- At least two years professional experience in a mechanical, electrical maintenance or breakdown environment, including experience in building services, building maintenance and HVAC.
- Good understanding of health and safety in the workplace, particularly in relation to facilities maintenance.
- Experience working with contractors and organising contractors onsite.
- Good interpersonal and organisation skills, including strong verbal and written communication as you will liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
Desirable skills:
- Experiencing working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Recognised health and safety qualifications such as IOSH working safely, IOSH managing safely or NEBOSH general certificate.
- Gas Safe and F-gas qualifications, experience with Compressed Air Systems and experience using Trend BMS.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Certificate, Inspection and Testing Certificates.
- Experience with Vacuum systems and working with LEV Plant.
