An exciting opportunity has arisen for urology enhanced recovery practitioner to become part of the team in the elective surgical pathway. The role is challenging, but exciting and rewarding.
This role will be mainly clinical working as part of the team to embed and promote enhanced recovery pathways for urology.
The enhanced recovery nurse role focuses on the recovery of patients following surgery and attempts to ensure the delivery of evidence-based care. This can improve the patient experience, improve clinical outcomes, and reduce the demand on inpatient beds by reducing length of stay.
There are 4 elements to enhanced recovery and if you are successful in your application you will work with the clinicians and wider teams to cover all elements as below
1. Pre operative assessment, planning and preparation before admission.
2. Reducing the physical stress of the operation
3. Structured approach to immediate post operative and peri operative management
4. Early mobilisation
The post holder will be responsible for:
• practice within the legal and ethical framework of the Nursing & Midwifery Council Professional Code of Conduct, ensuring registration via NMC revalidation.
• Develop/maintain the role of the Enhanced Recovery Nurse for urology patients.
To work both independently, as well as part of a multi-professional team including clinicians, nurses, and anaesthetist
• Clinical Practice
• Critically evaluate current practice using Care Quality Indicators as agreed with specific SDU leads and the Multi-Disciplinary team.
• Develop innovative ideas to improve efficiency of the Enhanced Recovery Programme, the patient experience and outcomes.
• Ensure the highest standard of personalised nursing care is delivered to patients and their families in partnership with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Develop and facilitate the delivery of educational programmes for ward staff and the wider MDT in the urology Enhanced Recovery Programme.
• To develop new process and polices for patients on the Enhanced Recovery Programme which will guide practice.
• To collate accurate written and verbal information for patients/carers to promote health education and the Enhanced Recovery Programme.
