Lead Practitioner Psychologist in Critical Care - Maternity Cover

London North West Healthcare NHS Trust

Location

Harrow, Greater London | United Kingdom

Job description

A Vacancy at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

Exceptional opportunity to take on a 12-month, maternity leave cover within our Critical Care Services.

Are you an experienced Psychologist contemplating a move to, or within, Clinical Health Psychology Services?

Would you value extending your trauma skill set with a fully funded EMDR training?

We would support inter-trust secondments for individuals who wish to widen their skill set and return to their current role.

The successful applicant will lead the Critical Care Psychology Service (present since March 2021). This would involve management and supervision of a qualified and an assistant psychologist.

Currently, clinical provision includes work with patients and families in ICU and ‘stepped down’ from ICU. There is a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing work, delivered through a close working relationship with colleagues in our OH Psychology Team who in-reach to provide 1-2-1 staff support.

The Service is still evolving and the role would suit a candidate who is keen to exercise their service development skills, knowledge and experience. Equally, the post would suit someone with acute inpatient psychology experience, knowledge and skills.

The post is integrated into the Trust’s Psychological Services Network and the successful applicant will have access to weekly support/supervision.

We recognise that this may be an unfamiliar service setting and we welcome informal enquires and visits from potentially interested psychologists.

This opportunity sits within a highly regarded, friendly and supportive, Critical Care Service covering two medical-surgical ICU’s: one at Ealing Hospital (13 beds) and one at Northwick Park hospital (24 beds). The Psychology Service is well regarded, working with patients and families across the Critical Care Pathway, directly and indirectly. Critical Care are keen to expand the psychology service to include a psychology follow-up outpatient clinic. Staff wellbeing work is highly regarded and is provided in close partnership with OH Psychology.

The role will involve leading the (small, welcoming and friendly) Critical Care Psychology Team and service (continuing with established service provision and developing this further in line with current plans), alongside elements of actively being a lead in critical care and feeding into related meetings, teaching to the service, direct work with patients and families, and various staff wellbeing initiatives. The post holder will be managed by the Critical Care GM and supervised by the 8D Lead for Psychological Services.

The Trust is making significant investments in developing its psychology services and the successful candidate will benefit from strong links to psychology colleagues in other teams. The LNWH Psychology Services Network (PSN) provides enhanced opportunities for CPD and collaboration, with leads of specific areas within the Trust meeting regularly.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.

Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.

We run major acute services at:
• Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
• St Mark’s Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease
• Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
• Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.
