About this role:

As the Chief Marketing Officer for Crystal Palace Football Club, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the marketing strategy for the Club to enhance the brand image, positively drive fan engagement, and increase revenue streams for the Club. This position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the football industry and a proven track record in developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns.

Reporting Structure:

As the Chief Marketing Officer, you will be responsible for all marketing decisions throughout the Club, ensuring direct liaison with the Executive Chairman for final approval. Additionally, collaboration with other department heads may be necessary when marketing initiatives impact various departments or aspects of the Club. You will be responsible for all marketing spends and must ensure they fall within the budget agreed with the CFO.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Brand Strategy and Positioning

Design and implement a comprehensive brand strategy for the Club.

Constantly look to innovate and drive ‘Brand’ awareness.

Define and maintain the Club’s Brand identity and position across all areas.

Fan Engagement and Community Building

Create innovative fan engagement campaigns to deepen the Club’s connection with supporters and strengthen a sense of community.

Management Responsibility

Define the annual marketing budget and collaborate with the CFO to attain agreement.

Direct and lead a team of 20+ professionals, responsible for marketing, production, content creation, communication, and website management within the Club.

Supervise various outsourced agencies, including PHA, InCrowd, Unrvld, etc. ensuring they are working within the budget parameters.

Liaise with the HR department regarding the recruitment of any new employees and organisational change projects.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will be responsible for championing all Club policies and procedures with particular reference to safeguarding and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

Communications

Administer all Club communications/PR matters, addressing both football and non-football issues. This will involve liaising with the relevant department heads and ensuring the Executive Chairman is kept updated where necessary.

Maintain continuous communication and positive relationships with other department heads to ensure any marketing and/or communication issues are proactively and efficiently addressed.

Contribute to the writing of weekly program notes and Club statements on behalf of the Executive Chairman and other key stakeholders.

Spearhead critical marketing decisions on behalf of the organization, ensuring seamless coordination when reporting to the Executive Chairman.

Data-Driven Decision Making

Utilise data analytics to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives.

Make informed decisions based on key performance indicators (KPIs)

Continuously refine the Club’s marketing strategy based on data insights.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum 8+ years of overseeing marketing campaigns with high profile companies who are constantly in the public eye.

Strategic thinker with a demonstratable track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies.

Experience in social media, CRM, content marketing, online advertising, and data analytics.

Demonstrated expertise in brand development and maintenance.

Unmatched flexibility and commitment to non-traditional hours, adeptly handling critical situations like late-night player signings, crisis management, and time-sensitive tasks.
