Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join our healthcare team at Stoke Heath Prison. As a Prison RGN, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality healthcare services to inmates within a secure correctional facility. It is essential that the candidate holds valid prison clearance to ensure eligibility for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments for inmates upon entry, including physical and mental health evaluations.
- Manage and provide care for a diverse range of medical conditions, injuries, and illnesses commonly found within a correctional environment.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols and healthcare guidelines.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including doctors, mental health professionals, and support staff, to develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates.
- Monitor and document inmates' medical histories, conditions, and treatment progress accurately and confidentially using electronic medical records systems.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, including providing initial assessment, stabilization, and coordination of further medical interventions when required.
- Provide health education and counseling to inmates on topics such as disease prevention, hygiene, and self-care.
- Assist in the management of chronic diseases and infectious outbreaks within the prison population.
- Perform routine health screenings, immunizations, and health promotion activities as needed.
- Adhere to strict security protocols and maintain a safe environment while delivering care to inmates.
- Collaborate with prison security staff to ensure the safety and security of healthcare facilities and medical equipment.
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with inmates and colleagues.
Requirements:
- Valid and active registration as a General Nurse (RGN) with the appropriate nursing regulatory body.
- Prior experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably within a correctional environment or a related field.
- Proof of prison clearance to work within a secure facility.
- Sound clinical judgment and the ability to make rapid and effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with inmates, colleagues, and other professionals.
- Knowledge of current healthcare guidelines and best practices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in a challenging environment.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records systems and other relevant healthcare technology.
