Job description
FPGA Design Engineer
The role of FPGA Design Engineer will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary hardware / software development team and will be based at our Leicester site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analysing requirements and specifying / documenting FPGA Digital Signal Processing solutions.
- Defining module level architectures, documenting detail into design specifications.
- Converting architectures into RTL whilst considering the constraints of the target hardware .
- Verification of the RTL at module level and top level.
- Synthesis and timing analysis.
- Integration of FPGAs into a target hardware platform.
Essential skills:
The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:
- Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in relevant engineering degree.
- Excellent knowledge of digital design techniques.
- Proficient in RTL design with coding experience in VHDL.
- Proficient in the use of FPGA simulation and synthesis tools.
- Understanding of the FPGA design process.
- Experience with formal verification and timing analysis.
- Proven prior experience developing FPGA solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Desired skills :
- Embedded firmware development: C/C++.
- Electronic understanding I.e. Understanding of electronic schematics.
- Scripting: TCL, Python.
- Experience converting mathematical algorithms into FPGA based Digital Signal Processing solutions.
- Interfacing to high-speed DDR SERDES I.e. receiving ADC data.
- Use of DMA to transfer raw and processed data between FPGA and RAM.
- Experience with the Xilinx/AMD ZYNQ family of SoCs.
- Experience of the agile development methodologies .

- Be able to work as part of a multi- disciplinary team as well as can also work independently.
- Excellent problem-solving skills .
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in FPGA development and product development applying them to drive innovation .
