Job description

A well-established Fabrication company based in Birmingham requires an experience Production to join their workforce on a permanent basis.


Position: Production supervisor (Fabrications)

Area: Birmingham
Salary: 35k depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours

Suitable candidates are likely to be time served and have experience in metal and fabrication, including welding, fabrication CNC press brake machines and lasers.

Day to day duties and experience required.


As a Production Supervisor you will be required to ensure of the shop floor, troubleshooting where necessary and ensure processes are followed and provide a safe clean work area.

• Ensure your staff are well trained and neatly turned out on the shop floor.

• The team is well disciplined, a respect is always shown to / by other team members and other departments. No form of discrimination is acceptable in any circumstances.
• Ensure production processes are always followed and any process gaps are reported.

• Safety briefings are held with the team, at regular intervals.

• Regular team briefings should be held, which should include, business update, quality snags, CARS and toolbox talks to improve quality and / or performance. Your staff should be aware of output demands through team briefs and through visual management on team boards.

• If your department falls behind the build schedule a recovery plan should be created and published to the wider business. If required, a request to implement overtime shifts should be made.

• Robust planning should be in place to cover annual leave for yourself and the team. Output should not be affected by annual leave being taken unless agreed with the planning team.

• The supervisor is responsible for the quality coming from their shift and should ensure a right first-time culture is promoted and targets are met. Inspection procedures are followed, and non-confirming parts / systems do not leave the department.

• The production schedule should be followed and met daily.

• A shift report should be filed weekly identifying any causes of delay, resulting in; late delivery, inefficiency and waste.

• The documentation process from the department must be always followed. This includes, but is not limited to; Job card completion and accurate closure on our ERP system, waste elimination forms, line stoppages, shift reports.

• Support the QA department to close customer complaints, and CAR's ensuring permanent corrective actions are put in place.

• Ensure equipment provided is fully utilised and in good working order, and the team have the correct tools to hand
• Complete TPE for all equipment in line with equipment instruction / requirement

• Assisting the Production Manager to make decisions based on needs of your department whilst understanding the wider business objectives.

• Help develop work instructions, team assessment, and performance monitoring and training.

• Ensure personnel /training files are updated.

• Carry out staff appraisals.

• Manage back to work interviews and work-related performance.

• Report to HR and your line manager any staff concerns and act to ensure the employee and the business are protected.


Experience needed

• GCSE's including Maths and English or demonstrate a suitable academic capability to fulfil the role.

• Possess relevant management/ leadership training, or able to demonstrate industry experience in a supervisory role or is willing to undertake supervisory training.

• Computer literate, can use our standard ERP system (training will be given), and as a minimum intermediate level Outlook, Word, and Excel

• FLT Advantageous

• First aid certificate useful (training will be provided)
