What you will do in your working day

Working as a technician within one or more of the company’s design teams involved in delivering projects across a variety of construction sectors.

Key elements of the role include:

• Production of CAD drawings
• Preparations of calculations
• Supporting the administration of projects
• Ensuring outputs meet the required standards
• Meeting agreed deadlines
• Maintaining a drawing register
• Working as a member of a team
• Contributing to providing solutions to problems
• Working both in the office and occasional visits to site
• Working with experienced Engineers to develop your engineering skills and understanding

The training you will be getting

Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard - Civil Engineering Technician:

• Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician - Knowledge, Skills and behaviours
• Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Civil Engineering
• Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills English - Classroom (Exemptions apply)
• Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills mathematics - Classroom (Exemptions apply)

Training will be given by day release, one day per week during term time. This will be managed under Bridgewater and Taunton College, but the course will be undertaken at the University of the West of England in Bristol.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

This apprenticeship role will enable the successful candidate to work within the field of civil, structural and geotechnical engineering design. A great start in the industry, it will open doorways to further study – perhaps a HNC and engineering degree?

Upon successful completion of the three-year apprenticeship, a professional qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers awaits (TMICE). You will be receiving on-the-job training at the sharp end of engineering.
