Reporting to: Head of Legal for UK & I

Swissport, the world’s largest provider of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry, is seeking an experienced lawyer to join our legal department. As the Legal Counsel for UK & Ireland, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping legal strategies and ensuring compliance within our dynamic business environment.

Reporting into Head of Legal UK&I, you will be involved in providing general and practical legal advice to the business including drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and upholding the high levels of regulatory compliance within the business. You will assist in the management of an exciting and unique aviation property portfolio at 27 UK & Ireland Airport locations.

The scope of the position will be broad, and you will act as a true business partner with the Head of Legal in order to deliver sound legal support and advice to the UK&I business region. You will enable the business to deliver on its objectives and to minimise the risk, whilst remaining commercially minded and solutions focused.

The following responsibilities are associated with this job role:

• Drafting and Negotiation:   You’ll handle commercial Standard Ground Handling Agreements and other key contracts, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
• Corporate Governance:   Support regional subsidiaries in maintaining robust corporate governance practices.
• Practical Legal Advice:   Provide expert guidance on regulatory compliance, anti-competition laws, and anti-bribery and corruption regulations.
• Commercial Property:   Interpret leases, advise on disputes, and oversee lease progressions for our unique aviation property portfolio.

• Qualified Solicitor/Barrister with between 5-7 years PQE.
• Post-qualification experience in-house working desirable.
• Bachelor or Master degree in Law or other relevant field is desirable
• Any aviation experience is advantageous
• Strong business acumen.
• Significant experience with commercial transactions, property transactions and corporate governacne.
• A self starter with the ability to manage a significant number of projects simultaneously and to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced environment while always maintaining the highest level of integrity.
• A proven team player with the ability to build consenses with diverse stakeholders and third parties and form strong collaborative working relationships with internal clients.
• Competent in Microsoft Office Package with skilled user of Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Office 365 is desirable.
