Job description
What you will do in your working day
Sector/Customer demographic:
CNC machine tool market, manufacturing swarf management systems, filtering coolant and oil from the machined debris as part of a 3-stage filter system
Processes:
The apprentice would be partnered with a trainer in the department. Each department has a supervisor to oversee the shop floor and then a production assistant manager to oversee the department, and finally the line production manager
Manufacturing process:
- MIG & Arc welding
- Reading and working from technical drawings to fabricate FSE designed systems. All FSE systems are bespoke to each customer, the fabrication process is between 5 - 10 days
- Fabricators work as either an individual or as part of a team to manufacture systems
- Equipment used - hand tools such as grinders, linishers, and hand drills. Machines such as guillotines, hydraulic folders, rollers, pillar drills and chop saws
- Material - systems are made using mild steel 2mm - 5mm, laser cuts are provided for the sub-structures
- H&S - all PPE is provided to carry out the job and each task has been risk assessed and RAMS provided to carry out each task as safe as possible. All members of staff must sign on to the task specific RAMS to perform their role effectively and safely
The training you will be getting
Qualifications: General welder (arc processes) Level 2 apprenticeship standard, including Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths if required.
The training for this apprenticeship will be delivered over a period of 2 years, with the apprentice required to attend the training centre 1 day a week at In-Comm Training Services in Telford, TF3 3AJ; 1 day per week as part of the training during this time to achieve knowledge, understanding and competence in the following subjects:
- General and Welding Specific Health and Safety
- Dimensional and Mechanical Properties of Materials
- Welding Procedures, Parameters and Symbols
- Testing and Inspection
- Welding Defects
- MIG, MAG and FCAW processes
- MMA Processes
- TIG-TAG and PAW Processes
