Job description
A leading developer of hydrogen energy and propulsion solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer for Control Software Development. This is to support the integration for dual-fuel energy systems used in heavy duty industrial and marine applications. This is a permanent role based in Essex.

The Role
The Principal Engineer for Control Software Development will own the development and integration of ECU (Engine Control Units) for hydrogen dual fuel systems used in heavy-duty/industrial and marine applications.
You will collaborate with cross functional teams including Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers, Electrical Engineers/Designers to ensure seamless integration of the ECUs into the overall hydrogen systems architecture.
The Principal Engineer for Control Software Development will design and implement control algorithms, communication protocols and safety features to optimise the performance, safety and efficiency of the Hydrogen dual fuel systems.
You will carry out testing and validation of the ECUs to meet regulatory requirements and industry standards. Additionally, you will troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues within the ECUs.
The Person
The successful candidate for Principal Engineer will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
You will demonstrate proven experience in the design, development, and testing of Engine Control Units (ECUs).
The Principal Engineer will have strong proficiency in programming languages such C/C++, Python or other relevant languages.
You will possess a strong understanding and experience set in modelling and simulation software such as Matlab/Simulink.
You will have familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems.
Also, it is essential that you have knowledge of control algorithms, sensors, actuators, and feedback systems and the ability to work collaboratively in a team driven, agile environment.
