Job description
Our client is a Utilities company and due to this continued growth, an exciting new opportunity has arisen for Electrical Project Managers for their West Midlands operations. Your role will be to manage the delivery of feasibility studies and preconstruction on various schemes on behalf of IDNO Electricity Operators and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) in the Electricity Industry.
Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessing feasibility of proposed desktop designed new connections and substations.
- Carry out cable route optioneering to identify the most economical and practical cable route.
- Identify existing electrical and other utility services alongside the proposed cable routes.
- Building accurate quotations for the delivery of OCU designed new connection projects for LV, 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 1232kV schemes, ensuring all requirements are captured –
- Ascertaining TM requirements
- Ground types for excavation
- Network suitability for proposed connections
- Identifying Special Engineering Difficulties (SED)
- Condition assessment of existing plant
- Highlight potentially affected Stakeholders.
- Providing detailed assumptions to protect the business from potential additional future costs.
- Providing customer, client, and programme with key technical guidance in the delivery of all connection works.
- Complying with strict guarantee standard requirements for the NRSWA permit timescales to complete and return reports.
- Liaising and updating the planning department with any customer and client requests
- Attending sites to advise and guide Clients on electrical installation requirements (Substations, cables, joints) and ascertain works scope and resource requirement.
- Liaise with 3rd parties involved such as landowners, Local Authorities environmental agency and other stakeholders if required to establish proposed route and works methodology.
- Plan and manage trial holes and/or boreholes where required to identify existing assets or ground conditions.
- Monitoring performance to ensure that all objectives are met, and problems are anticipated and resolved.
Requirements
Skills and Experience
- Management experience in delivering Power Cable installations projects is essential.
- Strong Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to time, cost, quality, safety, and security of supply.
- Experience within the electrical distribution sector and an understanding of installation construction requirements, particularly Substation Design and Cable Route planning and design.
- Experience in contract management within fixed price and target cost contracts.
- Effective communication skills including the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audiences.
- Excellent people management and commercial acumen, ability to build relationships across all levels of the organisation, track record of developing working relationships quickly and effectively.
- Sound understanding of health and safety legislation.
- Membership of relevant professional body (desirable)
- Full driving licence

- IOSH Managing Safety
- Project Management
- NRSWA Supervisor accreditation
- Knowledge of the electrical distribution industry, either through direct DNO of contractor employment
- Experience using SSEN’s EO Web online mapping system or similar DNO systems.
- Has worked operationally within the electrical distribution industry.
- Advanced Communication, Interpersonal & Organisational Skills
