Shift Pattern of the Lab technician : 5 days on followed by 2 days off on a 3 week rota, made up of 8 hour shifts. (Mon-Sun).

As the Lab Technician , you will be working in the Chemistry Laboratories, and will contribute to the analytical testing service within the steel business.

Responsibilities of the Lab Technician :

• The preparation of samples for analysis to defined procedures.
• Operation and maintenance of a variety of analytical instrumentation.
• Techniques used include: Spark OES, XRF, Fusion Analysis (Leco oxygen / nitrogen), Combustion analysis (Leco Carbon/Sulphur).
• The Lab Technician will be responsible for monitoring analytical performance utilising documented procedures.
• Assisting Shift Operations Manager in all training activities.
• Deputise as necessary for the Shift Operations Manager in his/her absence.
• To ensure a clean, tidy and safe working environment is maintained and that safety procedures are fully implemented.

To be successful in this role as the Lab Technician , you will be qualified to HNC or equivalent in Chemistry, metallurgy, Materials, or related scientific subject. You will hold knowledge of Speciality Steels products and processes and hold hands-on experience of analysis, particularly with respect to combustion and fusion analysers. It is essential that you hold experience working in a UKAS and/or NADCAP accredited testing laboratory.
