The Role
To support the Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) system conducting routine activities and specialist projects as required. Ensure that risk assessments and statutory inspections are undertaken in a timely manner. All actions and observations arising are effectively communicated and implemented. Accurate and up to date HS&E records are maintained.
This position sits in Newton Abbot, UK and will report to the Site Quality Leader.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure the business is compliant to all regulatory and legislative HS&E requirements.
• To plan and conduct independent, system and process audits to determine the continued effectiveness of the HS&E System.
• Provide reports to Management that identifies the outcome of audits and issues. Monitor and facilitate the progression of any improvements from audit activities and the timely closure of identified issues.
• To always demonstrate adherence to the business’ values and behaviors, fully aligning with the MB Cornerstones.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining EH&S procedures and standards.
• Report HS&E related information to related departments, internal & external.
• Analyse relevant HS&E data and produce KPI’s, reports and other statistical information that reports on the overall effectiveness of the HS&E System, identifying key trends and areas for improvement.
• To identify potential risks and areas for improvement of the HS&E System as part of a planned program of internal audit and continual improvement.
• Validate the implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions resulting from Internal and external audits.
• To promote a safety-first culture. Intervene constructively to highlight or challenge unsafe or perceived unsafe actions.
• Identify HS&E training needs, arranging or delivering suitable training and ensuring that training records are properly maintained.
• Ensure that all statutory HS&E inspections are carried out and all actions effectively communicated and implemented.
• Maintain accurate records of all inspections, surveys and assessments.
• Carry out workplace risk assessments and manage risk assessment database. Ensure effective communication.
• Ensure that all accidents are investigated, accurately recorded, and analysed, and all identified actions communicated and implemented.
• Ensure that all contractor activities are adequately controlled and audited, and the contractor database is kept up to date.
• Responsible for conducting EH&S and Energy Conservation programs. Generate plans to reduce waste and emission levels as part of the annual planning process.
• Responsible for the timely and effective completion of all findings and corrective actions assigned to the post holder.
• To conduct any other reasonable activities as directed by line management.
Authority
To act as focal point of engagement for customers and regulators for all matters pertaining to the planning and conducting of external audits designed to test continued compliance of the EHS System.
All issues of concern are escalated to functional and site leadership for guidance and direction.
Job Requirements
• Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline.
• Previous related experience in a health and safety role, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
• Must hold a minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, or IOSH training.
• Proven ability in using quality tools and techniques in relation to problem solving.
• Demonstrable proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Chartered status within a relevant professional accreditation (NEBOSH / CQI) or can demonstrate working towards it.
• Excellent communication skills, in a style that empathetically guides, supports and influences other employees and colleagues (written and oral), including report writing.
• Experience in maintaining and coordinating management system information, records, certification requirements and providing assurance of their continued effectiveness.
• Qualified Internal Auditor for ISO 14001 / 9001 and AS 9100-Lead Auditor desirable.
• Demonstrable capability to identify sustainable business improvements & ensure effective implementation.
