Overview
My client is looking for a professional to join the team and add their experience to the whole connections process. Working as part of a growing UK development team you will be taking responsibility for their existing GW scale portfolio of solar and BESS projects, performing grid feasibility studies to assess new opportunities. Most of my lclients connections range from 30MW to 600MW at voltages from 33kV to 400kV with onshore cable routes up to 20km.
The Role
- Manage all existing grid connection offers.
- Proactively seek new opportunities for grid capacity on the distribution and transmission networks. Including the formalisation of this process.
- Prepare and submit grid applications.
- Assess new grid connection offers and actively engage with the transmission and distribution network operators to make the agreements as commercially viable as possible.
- Ensure compliance with accepted grid offers.
- Give direction and support to the design team in the electrical design of the projects, including any specific requirement from the network operator and an initial design of the customer substations layout. Assess design options for feasibility and viability at voltages up to and including 400kV.
- Seek quotes, review and negotiate ICP costs
- Support the Development team in the design of the projects and any requirements that may affect the planning permission of the site.
- Communicate and work with the wider team to allow for the smooth operation of the business.
- Input into the wider development strategy of the business.
- Represent My client in relevant policy discussions across the industry including participation in industry working groups and responding to consultations
Required skills
- A degree in electrical engineering or similar.
- Experience in a technical role within a UK distribution or transmission company.
- Good experience working with 33kV, 132kV and/or 400kV connection design.
- A working knowledge of the Grid Code, CUSC and industry policy and legislation.
- Some experience working with renewable energy projects is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good general IT skills.
- Good communication skills and proven ability to work as part of a team.
