Job description

By harnessing the power of cell growth, we are creating state-of-the-art technology inspired by nature that you can use to cultivate real meat outside animal bodies – with no need for slaughter. Cultivated meat is also known as ‘cultured’, ‘cell-based’ or ‘clean’ meat, but for us, it’s called ‘Cellcraft’ meat. An end-to-end process that can be set up almost anywhere, we will give you the tools to produce meat that’s cleaner, responsible, and scalable – empowering producers and revolutionising animal protein and fat production for a more sustainable food economy.

Tasks

We are a rapidly growing cultured meat start-up looking for a Tissue Engineer with experience in scaffold and media development and operation to join our core team! You will be flexible and able to handle rapidly changing priorities on a range of cross-functional projects. You are an independent problem solver who enjoys working in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities:

Scaffold fabrication/generation using techniques like freeze-drying, etc.

• Cell culture within scaffolds
• Characterisation of scaffolds using various analytical techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), tensile and other mechanical testing, XPS, etc.
• Development and optimisation of media for cell proliferation as well as differentiation
• Planning, efficient execution, comprehensive analysis and presentation of experimental data.
• Coordination of engineering projects.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject such as Biomaterials Sciences, Tissue Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Natural Sciences, Biotechnology, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Bioengineering.
• Relevant PhD or at least 3 years of relevant work experience beyond Bachelor’s/Master’s
• Significant hands-on expertise in scaffold fabrication using techniques such as electrospinning, soft lithography, freeze-drying, etc.
• Significant hands-on expertise in characterisation of scaffolds or hydrogels using various analytical techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), tensile and other mechanical testing, XPS, etc.
• Significant hands-on expertise in adherent mammalian cell culture in 3D within scaffolds
• Significant hands-on experience in commonly used techniques for characterising cells, such as immunostaining, qPCR, etc.
• Experience in media development and optimisation for mammalian cells
• Stem cell culture experience

Desirable hands-on expertise:

• Primary Cell Isolation
• Design and operation of fluidic systems incorporating scaffolds
• Induced pluripotent stem cell culture
• Myogenic and adipogenic differentiation
• Cell line development and screening
• Media development and optimisation for mammalian cell differentiation
• Working with microcarriers
• Suspension culture of mammalian cells
• Fabrication techniques such as prototyping, 3D Computer Aided Design, 3D printing, metal works (eg. soldering), etc.
• Sourcing and procurement of materials and equipment for tissue engineering
