Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and diligent Risk & Compliance Manager to join our growing team at BHP Law. As the Risk & Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving comprehensive risk management practices across the firm and ensuring the firm's adherence to regulatory & compliance obligations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare any documentation and information required to support yearly quality assessments, audits and reaccreditation to professional bodies.
- Update relevant logs to ensure all risks, breaches, complaints and claims are accurately recorded and resolved.
- Oversee and implement holistic risk and compliance strategies across the firm.
- Ensure strict compliance with Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA) directives and other relevant legal standards (e.g. CQS, WIQS).
- Develop, review, and update policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and provide recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
- Drive awareness and understanding of compliance obligations throughout the organisation, including but not limited to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) legislation.
- Regularly review changes in regulation to update our policies, procedures, and processes.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate compliance measures into business processes.
- Conduct internal audits to assess the effectiveness of risk and compliance controls.
- Monitoring, checking and processing compliance actions to ensure we meet regulatory requirements & deadlines.
- Respond to and manage any compliance-related incidents or issues.
- Understand our Client Complaints and Claims procedures and provide ad-hoc cover for our Complaints & Claims coordinator.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Proven experience in a similar role within the legal sector, with a focus on risk and compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of SRA directives and other legal regulations.
- Strong understanding of Data Protection laws, particularly GDPR.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey risk & compliance requirements to various stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and mitigate risks.
- Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
