Overall Purpose of Job

To give efficient and effective support in the co-ordination and administration of electoral registration and election processes, as part of a pro-active team. To offer support to all electoral registration and election services at working times to be determined by the Electoral Services Manager.

Job Context

  1. The post holder reports to the Principal Electoral Services Officer
  2. The post-holder will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of applications to register as an elector and applications for absent voting.
  3. The post-holder will deal with telephone, email and face to face enquiries from residents, political groups and external bodies relating to electoral registration and elections.
  4. The post-holder will be responsible for cash and cheque payments relating to the purchase of the electoral register and marked electoral registers.
  5. The post-holder will be required to work some evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays in order to meet service requirements and in order to ensure appropriate representation of the Council with residents, the Mayor and elected members, and external bodies.
  6. No direct line management but be required on the job training or the allocation and checking of work for quality and quantity for temporarily assigned or shared employees including trainee and work placement employees at level 6.
    KNOWLEDGE:
    Knowledge of and a commitment to working to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

NVQ2 or equivalent or willingness to study to attain.

Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft based applications.
EXPERIENCE:

At least a year’s experience of dealing with members of the public.

Appreciation of Electoral Registration
principles and willingness to develop customer service skills.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to input data from registration forms in a timely and accurate manner

Ability to work on own initiative with occasional supervision.

Experience of using an Electoral Registration system and data input.

Experience of office procedures in a busy, responsive, administrative environment.

Ability to demonstrate a clear and helpful manner in dealing with members of the public and other members of staff.

A sufficient level of literacy and numeracy to enable duties to be carried out accurately to an acceptable standard.

Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and in person, with other officers and members of the public
