SEMH Teacher - Lewes

 

Are you an experienced and passionate teacher looking for a challenging yet rewarding role? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering high-quality education to hard-to-reach children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.

 

Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning: Take a lead role in planning, implementing, and assessing a therapeutically informed special curriculum that fosters small-group and project-based learning.

Therapeutic Environment: Assist in creating and maintaining a facilitating environment conducive to promoting therapeutic learning, support, care, and nurture.

Welfare and Safety: Promote the welfare and safety of the children, attending to their emotional, social, behavioral, and psychological needs in alignment with our therapeutic ethos.

Collaboration: Effectively liaise with colleagues, both within the school and external partners, ensuring good communication and positive working relationships.

 

Requirements:

Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status is essential.
Experience: Proven experience in teaching settings challenging mainstream education models, with a focus on children with autistic spectrum conditions and attention/concentration disorders.
SEMH Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing child-centered education for children with social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health difficulties.
Flexibility: Ability to work flexibly, including under pressure and during emergencies.
Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with hard-to-reach children.

Therapeutic Approach: Commitment to therapeutic practice and an understanding of the challenging nature of the role.
Integrity: Honesty, openness, and integrity in all interactions.
Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations and demands, including flexible working hours when necessary.
Reflective Practitioner: Capacity for self-reflection, self-awareness, and continuous professional development.

 

Desired Criteria:

Leadership Skills: Capacity to lead either a curriculum area or Key Stage.
Driving License: Full clean driving license and willingness to drive if required.
Cost Awareness: Understanding of cost awareness and efficiency.
