Your new role
Working as part of the Commercial team, you will be supporting the Commercial Manager with the development, implementation and management of all commercial activities and controls of the business unit you are assigned to, with the overall aim to maximise the profitability of the business unit whilst ensuring the Ipsum values are upheld (Safety, Service & Specialist).
Principle Accountabilities:
- Report on contract performance to budget and forecasts, as well as formal reviews to support the financial accounts
- Audit adherence to the procurement & pricing strategy and processes at the relevant business unit
- Provide commercial support to the general/framework managers, dealing with ad hoc requests and commercial insight for decision making
- Pro-actively identify leads and opportunities for growth within your business unit
- Support the business unit in the generation of tenders for all opportunities
- Build up a strong knowledge of the customer contracts within your business unit
- Provision of advice on commercial issues to the general/framework managers
- Report on work in progress, accurate billing, and support with payment collection
- Utilise standardised methods to support with all pricing and tendering activity – which in turn will allow us to achieve the budgeted margins
- Preparation of any sub-contract tender requirements for management review
- Use the Management Information System (MIS/Internal Software) to track works progress and report on any contract KPI’s
- Develop the Management Information System (MIS) as an accurate financial reporting tool.
- Assist with risk management and mitigation
- Maintain visibility of expenditure to ensure works are completed to budget
- Production of contract applications for payment by clients
- Interface with the Senior Management Team and attend management reviews as required
- Ensure suitable payment terms are negotiated with suppliers/subcontractors
- Continuously improve the reporting available to management for improved decision making
- Any other tasks reasonably requested by the Commercial Manager
About you
- ACCA/ACA/CIMA Qualified or MSc Quantity Surveying
- Demonstrable experience within a similar commercial or financial role
- A working knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts
- Ability to challenge internal stakeholders and hold account to the Commercial Governance
- Experience of operating in a commercial, multi-divisional organisation
- Solid and up to date knowledge of contractual law and commercial practice
- Experience of working with Schedule of Rates contracts and other measurement techniques
- Proven track record of producing reports suitable for management review
- A commitment to drive outstanding Health, Safety and Environmental performance

- A good understanding of complex process systems, with experience of business process re-engineering
- Demonstrable track record of commercial and financial contract management, to an appropriate level

- Ability to advise colleagues on commercial processes
- Will pursue high standards, recognise improvement opportunities, and learn from experience
- Ability to confidently provide solutions and ideas to problems, defend the commercial position and negotiate the best possible outcome
- Ability to undertake logical and methodical interrogation of information, data, legal sources and trends, keep accurate records and an audit trails
