Job description
As the Network Operations Director for AllPoints Fibre (APF), your role will encompass overseeing and managing the operations of the National network infrastructure (on and off net) that supports our wholesale services.
This role will be responsible for all elements of the network owned by APF and the service provided by a combination of the APFN network and our partner’s services and networks. This will include our on net, active and passive network, its network equipment from core through edge and to the end premises where deployed.
Overall, your role as the Network Operations Director for APFN is crucial in ensuring that the network infrastructure supporting wholesale services is robust, reliable, secure, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of the business and its customers
What you will be doing:
1. Network Infrastructure Operation, Monitoring and Maintenance: You'll be responsible for the Operation and maintenance of the network infrastructure, ensuring it meets the performance, reliability, and scalability specifications defined for our wholesale services. Implementing systems for monitoring network, application, API and systems performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively, and ensuring high availability and uptime for wholesale services.
2. Capacity Planning & Management: Analysing current and future network traffic patterns, estimating capacity requirements and upgrade lead times, to facilitate planning for network expansion to accommodate growing wholesale service demands through automation.
3. Service Management: Implementing best in class Service Management and ITIL processes to ensure that quality of Service to our Wholesale Partners, meeting our performance and SLA commitments. Supporting the Commercial relationship team in engaging with and communicating to ISP and B2B partners on Operational issues (current and future), supporting Service reviews and driving continuous improvement. Leveraging automation to increase our differentiation through best in industry regularised performance reporting for services delivered, both in bulk summary and down to individual service levels,
4. Security Management: Working in cooperation with our Director of Cyber Security’s team, implementing and maintaining robust operational and security measures to protect the wholesale network from cyber threats and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
5. Vendor Management: Defining and implementing the Partner support strategy across key insourced skills and experienced partner skills. Managing partner relationships with network equipment vendors, service providers, and contractors to procure, with support from our procurement organisation, operational and monitoring equipment and services, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery and support.
6. Team Leadership and Development: Leading a team of network engineers, sys-admins and technicians, providing guidance, coaching, and training to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to effectively manage the wholesale network and systems.
7. Budgeting and Cost Management: Developing and managing the annual budget for network operations, optimizing costs while ensuring that necessary investments are made to maintain and improve network performance.
8. Compliance and Regulatory Affairs: Ensuring that the wholesale network operations comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or local telecommunications regulations.
9. Strategic Planning: Working with our Network Strategy Director, contributing to the development of long-term Operational strategic plans for the wholesale network.
About you:
We are looking for an experienced network operations leader, preferably in the telecommunications or FTTP industry. This role will suit a results-oriented mindset, someone who can inspire operational excellence and continuous improvement. In this role you will need to influence stakeholders at all levels, both technical and non-technical so the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical colleagues will be beneficial.
