Job description
We are seeking an experienced teacher who has, is working towards, or has an intention to achieve the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for Special Educational Needs. You will have a passion for supporting students with special educational needs and have an acute understanding of the current challenges within SEN provision. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will be a key leader within the academy and will play a critical role in raising standards of attainment for students with additional learning needs.

The role of SENCo can be highly rewarding, as you will have the opportunity to directly contribute to students receiving the support that they need to achieve their full potential. You will provide professional guidance to staff in order to help ensure high-quality teaching and the effective use of resources to secure an inclusive education.
The SENCo will work closely with the Faculty and Pastoral Leads to ensure that barriers to learning are removed, enabling students to make clear progress. You will work closely with the Learning Support Team so that they are able to make a clear difference in the classroom. You will be an integral part of the team and must demonstrate loyalty, professionalism, commitment, high standards of work, integrity, and confidentiality both within the academy and the wider community.
In addition, you will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who consistently demonstrates the highest standards of delivery in the classroom. You will have a good understanding of teaching and learning pedagogy and be able to influence others when working with students with additional needs. Your teaching allocation will be negotiated on appointment, with a maximum of ten teaching hours per week.
Leventhorpe itself is a successful, oversubscribed Business and Enterprise Academy with keen and respectful learners. It was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all five categories by Ofsted in 2012. We are also the lead school for School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) within the Bishop’s Stortford Educational Trust (BSET).
We are incredibly proud to be an inclusive and supportive school. We have 26 students on roll with an EHCP and several more with complex learning needs.
