Job description

Pulse is currently seeking an empathetic Band 6 Occupational Therapist with previous Orthopaedic experience, to join our NHS client’s trauma and orthopaedics ward based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This vacancy is available to start as soon as possible, offering full-time hours for an initial 12 week period with a view to extend.

The trust are looking for a Qualified Senor Occupational Therapist who has worked in Trauma and Orthopaedics as a junior or senior independently to work on their trauma and orthopaedics team assessing and treating patients. The applying therapist must be able understand discharge planning, equipment provision, timely assessment and the grading of treatment required after surgery and fractures, as well as possess the ability to decide on potential for discharge and support in community or requiring further rehabilitation as in-patient to gain further recovery and functional ability.

Duties within this role will include, but are not limited to:

• Implementing safe and timely discharge from hospital for patients
• Carrying out independent assessment
• Educate patients and their relatives/carers of post-operative regimes
• Help to prevent post-operative complications
• Prescribing complex equipment such as hoists
• Assessment of patient progress and rehabilitation
• Being professionally and legally responsible for own work

Skills and experience needed:

• HCPC registration
• Previous experience in a similar role
• Relevant degree/qualification – in occupational therapy
