The Role:
The M&G plc Finance function has four strategic priorities:
1. Supporting the financial strength of the business by successfully balancing the competing demands of commerciality and prudence in a well governed and controlled environment
2. Delivering clear and incisive decision support, through commercially focused business partnering and by providing transparent, risk based advice underpinned by a fully embedded materiality framework
3. Creating a truly agile Finance function, which is responsive to changing market conditions and client requirements
4. Ensuring best in class service delivery through robust service management and through the delivery of efficient and optimised processes
This Finance Specialist will sit within Actuarial Operations and will contribute to the achievement of one or more of these outcomes in order to deliver the vision for Finance.
Experienced Colleague:
- Accountable for providing a quality service to customers and stakeholders, using skills/experience built through significant practical experience or training
- Works within established frameworks and procedures, with the freedom to interpret them to solve a range of problems
- Delivers outputs that are clearly defined, using discretion over how to achieve them
- Makes suggestions for improvements to the work of the team, based on previous experience and knowledge of similar situations
Key responsibilities for this role: The role offers the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of Actuarial Operations work supporting Finance and the wider business, including:
- the provision of technical actuarial calculations and maintenance of the transfer and commutation bases for non-profit and with-profit annuities;
- liaising with stakeholders across the wider business and with external parties to ensure understanding of complex and technical actuarial information, developing relationships with key business areas;
- development and review of documented calculation bases for preparing illustrations and administration system calculations for our new and existing life, pension and investment products; and
- supporting investigations into actuarial calculation related queries raised by other Actuarial areas and the wider business.
Key knowledge, skills and experience: - Previous experience within an actuarial team
- Highly effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Able to disseminate quality information to internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of developing a broad base of relationships with key contacts across Finance and with key business stakeholders
- Able to apply actuarial concepts and experience to real life situations
- Comfortable communicating business issues to appropriate parties and providing support to stakeholders
- Strong experience of using Microsoft applications
