Job description

Working within the Commercial department as Business Development Manager, you will assist in the development and management of the commercial bus network for Brighton and Hove, Metrobus and Spirit of Sussex.

 

While being able to work alone, you will be responsible for the development and expansion of business-to-business contracts but also to review and grow the City Sightseeing franchise.

 

You will be required to work closely with stakeholders to identify, validate and implement improvements to the network, utilising data and stakeholder feedback along with setting up new Commercial contracts with clients.

Effectively assist and develop the bus network in Brighton and Hove, Crawley and Sussex.

 

Conduct comprehensive market research to identify business opportunities, market trends, and potential areas for growth in the transportation sector.

Develop strategic plans and initiatives to expand the bus company's market share and increase revenue.

Identify and target potential clients, including corporate clients, schools, and other organisations, to expand the customer base.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients through effective communication and service delivery.

 

Actively pursue new business opportunities and partnerships to enhance the bus company's service offerings.

Collaborate with internal teams to tailor services to meet the unique needs of different client segments.

 

Prepare persuasive business proposals and presentations for prospective clients.

Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with clients to ensure mutually beneficial agreements.

 

Set and achieve revenue targets aligned with the company's business objectives.

Implement strategies to maximise revenue streams, such as introducing new routes or services.

 

Work closely with operations, marketing, and finance teams to ensure seamless implementation of business development initiatives.

Provide input to enhance marketing materials and promotional campaigns.

 

Stay informed about local and regional regulations related to the transportation industry.

Ensure that business development activities comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

 

Monitor competitors' activities and market trends to identify potential threats and opportunities.

Develop strategies to maintain a competitive edge in the bus transportation market.

 

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development activities.

Provide regular reports to senior management on business development progress, challenges, and opportunities.

 

Provide training and support to the sales and marketing teams to enhance their understanding of business development strategies.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the business development function.

 

Represent the bus company in community events, forums, and industry associations to enhance brand visibility.

Identify opportunities for community partnerships that align with the company's values and goals.

Customer Feedback and Improvement:

 

Gather and analyse customer feedback to identify areas for service improvement.

Implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Experience:

 

Business Development: Proven track record in business development, sales, or a related role, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.

Client Relationship Management: Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs, and delivering excellent customer service.

Revenue Growth: Experience in setting and achieving revenue targets, with a focus on driving business growth and expanding market share.

Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills with a history of successfully closing deals and contracts with clients and partners.

Team Leadership: Previous experience in leading and managing a business development or sales team, including setting objectives and driving performance.

Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the bus transportation industry, including an understanding of market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends.

Market Analysis: Proven ability to conduct comprehensive market analysis, identify opportunities, and develop strategic plans to capitalize on market trends.

Proposal Development: Experience in preparing persuasive business proposals, presentations, and other materials for client acquisition.

Community Engagement: Past involvement in community engagement activities, industry associations, and events to enhance brand visibility and reputation.

 

Knowledge:

Transportation Regulations: Thorough understanding of local and regional regulations governing the transportation industry, ensuring compliance in all business development activities.  

Competitor Analysis: Knowledge of competitor activities, market trends, and strategies to maintain a competitive edge in the bus transportation sector.  

Sales and Marketing: Familiarity with sales and marketing principles, including the ability to collaborate with marketing teams to enhance promotional campaigns.  

Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial principles related to pricing, revenue streams, and budget management within the context of a transportation business.  

Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using relevant business development tools, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and other technology solutions.

 

Qualifications:

 

Industry Certifications: Any relevant certifications or training programs related to business development, sales, or transportation management would be advantageous.  

Leadership Training: Completion of leadership training programs or courses showcasing leadership and management skills.  

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and negotiate terms with clients.  

Networking Skills: Strong networking skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, clients, and industry professionals.
