Position Summary
Bechtel is seeking a Senior Architect to join the Architecture Discipline within the Manufacturing and Technology Global Business Unit (M&T GBU) to work on a large-scale semiconductor facility to be built in Germany.
Typical Responsibilities
- Serves as lead or area lead architect on assigned project to develop an area from conceptual phase through construction completion.
- Applies broad and diversified knowledge of Architectural principles and practices to project architecture.
- Makes decisions independently concerning problems on the project.
- Participates in Owner Architect Contractor (OAC) meetings, coordinating design decisions and collaborating with all relevant parties such as structural, mechanical, electrical, process, vendors, suppliers, construction, estimating, third party designers, etc.
- Mentors, and provides technical direction to subordinate architects, engineers, specialists, designers, and drafters as assigned.
- Maintains contacts with client representatives, suppliers, appropriate field personnel, Project Field Engineers, and architectural and engineering disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.
- Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices, and quality standards.
- Coordination of Engineering and Construction/Procurement activities, in accordance with the established technical quality standards, cost, and schedule.
- Coordinates with the architect/engineer of record and provides field support during construction.
- Ensures design documents reflect as-built conditions.
- Coordinates resolution of field questions related to field change notices and design change notices.
- Prepares building and material specifications and related documents.
- Prepares service requisitions (SR) and material requisitions (MR), as well as conducting their technical bid evaluations.
- Assists in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders.
- Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
- Promotes the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, management system and trending program empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Skills and Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- A license to practice architecture from a recognized licensing board.
- Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline, knowledge of design applicable safety, health, environmental regulations.
- Experience in resolving complex technical problems and the ability to articulate explanations.
- Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
- Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
- Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
- Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, job hour estimates, and schedule planning.
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC)
- Experience of German regulatory requirements pertinent to building design
- German language capability is a bonus but not essential.
