London Borough of Hackney
Location
Hackney, Greater London | United Kingdom
Job description
Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. Hackney Council has achieved a huge amount in the past decade: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best.
The City of London Corporation is the governing body of the Square Mile, dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally-successful UK, aiming to contribute to a flourishing society, shape outstanding environments and support a thriving economy.
City and Hackney Public Health Service is a dynamic and committed group, serving the populations of both Hackney and the City of London and known for being innovative and passionate about improving the health of our local populations. The team is on a journey to transform both authorities to take a ‘Health in All Policies’ approach.
We are seeking to recruit a Public Health Outreach and Engagement Lead to play a pivotal role in championing and implementing health and wellbeing initiatives with and for the rich diversity of communities of Hackney and the City of London. Your mission will be to forge collaborative and meaningful partnerships with community stakeholders to co-design and deliver tailored public health programs, services and campaigns.
In this exciting new role, you will work alongside Public Health specialists and service leads, leveraging your expertise to build and strengthen effective community partnerships. Through collaboration with voluntary and community sector partners, health and care professional networks, local employers, local politicians and directly with residents, you will advocate for and deliver impactful outreach, engagement and co-production activities. In doing so, you will build on existing local programmes (including the Public Health Community Champions) and work alongside colleagues leading on related programmes across the voluntary and statutory sectors.
Your focus will be on establishing long-term, open and transparent working relationships with community partners. By listening closely to their needs, strengths and aspirations, you will help shape public health initiatives that are meaningful and impactful in addressing local challenges. You will have a crucial role in influencing senior decision-makers to drive forward these community-centred approaches.
Additionally, you will oversee the development and management of discretionary funding schemes, designed to empower communities to take ownership of projects that support achievement of local public health objectives.
If you're passionate about making a tangible impact on community health and wellbeing through authentic engagement and partnership-building, we encourage you to apply for the role of Public Health Outreach and Engagement Lead today.
In order to be considered for this critical new role, you will need relevant qualifications and on-the-job experience of leading community outreach and engagement activity. You will have a good understanding of public health principles and the drivers of population health. You must also have the tact, compassion and expertise to be able to work sensitively and effectively with diverse communities where health inequalities persist.
You will be able to develop and implement effective outreach and engagement methods that are sensitive to the needs and preferences of the communities within the City and Hackney, taking a trauma-informed and anti-racist approach. You will be experienced and competent in designing and using flexible methods to gather and analyse community insight, to inform the design of tailored programmes and campaigns. You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
