Job description
Join our dynamic team as an Engineer supporting the Highways Asset and Structures team for an initial 3-month period. This is a fantastic oppotunity to be at the heart of a transforming council based in West London.
Job Purpose To undertake duties relating to the planned and routine maintenance of street lighting, CMS system, EV Charging, illuminated and non-illuminated signs, and road markings.
To assist in designing the street lighting, and signage (illuminated & non-illuminated) road markings as and when required for capital projects.
Hourly Rates: PAYE - £23.90 Umbrella CIS £29.80
Schedule: Full time - Monday to Friday with possible extra hours
Duration : 3 - 4 months
Location : Hammersmith, West London
Essentials for the role : Knowledge of using Confirm Asset Management system and CMS.
Key Responsibilities and Duties: - To manage and implement street lighting and signs work by the specifications and within the available resources.
- To manage both electrical and non-electrical routines, planned and safe street lighting, Smart street lighting CMS system, Electrical Charger points, and signs work In support of the Senior Street Lighting Engineer/Manager.
- To manage or assist with the management of the installation and maintenance of all road markings within the borough
- To be familiar with street signs and road markings and to ensure they comply with the legal traffic orders
- To co-ordinate works by contractors and public utility companies by the Traffic Management Act, ensuring works are undertaken in default as necessary.
- To carry out systematic and ad hoc inspections, investigations, and condition surveys using data capture equipment to record defects and other data.
- To attend, in a technical capacity, working parties and other meetings as may be required for giving advice and information, on behalf of the Council, on matters relating to the work of the post holder.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree relevant to Highways, Surveying, and Construction (i.e. Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geology or equivalent)
- Practical experience in working within the Highways industry, liaising with contractors and assessing works orders and repairs.
- Holding a current Street Works (NRWSA) Supervisor qualification
Essential Knowledge and Experience :
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of Highway legislation and guidance including the Highways Act 1980, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. Understanding of the duties and powers this legislation places on the council.
- Understanding of relevant local policies, guidance, and legislation in place for Hammersmith and Fulham.
- Experience working within a Highways/Street Lighting section on projects or maintenance with minimal supervision and contribution to colleagues’ work on small-scale major developments/projects as needed.
- Experience in delivering projects across a range of engineering disciplines including lighting, civils, and traffic.
- Experience in using a GIS-based database and quantitative risk assessment modeling, such as Ark Map to analysis and map condition survey data.
