Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Public Health professional. You will have demonstrated your ability and commitment to deliver excellent public health management advice at a senior level and have a proven track record of collaboration and partnership.

As our new Director of Public Health and Communities you will be part of the high-performing leadership team across the Wakefield Health and Care Partnership. We see Public Health as sitting at the heart of the council and our work with communities and you will be pivotal to leading this and maximising impact.

Main duties of the role will include:

You will provide advice on all health matters to elected members, employees, and partners. You will be responsible for the development of a strategic needs assessment for local people, incorporating health improvements, protection, and wider health services, including obesity, smoking, and infectious diseases.
As Director of Public Health and Communities you will lead and facilitate continuous improvements and culture change across the council, as well as delivering critical services.
