Location: London or Suffolk (hybrid working arrangements, with travel to Suffolk typically 2 days per week).


Employment type: Permanent full-time/ part-time.


Employment basis: The role is expected to be a full- time position however we are open to discussing a more flexible or part- time approach where possible.


Salary: Competitive dependent on experience, plus bonus and other benefits.

The Opportunity

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.


We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel specialising in construction, responsible for supporting SZC in delivering its construction and engineering and related supply chain arrangements from a legal perspective.


Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.


The Role


You’ll provide high-quality, effective, and pragmatic legal advice on a wide array of matters, including the development of construction supply chain contracts, contract management, regulatory affairs, and governance.


You’ll take ownership of:


Supporting the management of complex, high-value, or high-risk matters. Developing strategic ideas and solutions while considering business risks, ensuring optimal outcomes.


Contract Management: Draft, negotiate, and provide expert advice on contract management. Identify innovative solutions and options for resolution, ensuring meticulous handling of contracts.


Additionally, you’ll be involved with driving continuous improvements in systems, policies, and procedures through insightful contributions and best practices, fostering a culture of excellence within the legal team.


You’ll also need to proactively identify and manage potential disputes or claims when required, leading with strategic advice to avoid conflicts and efficiently managing any formal dispute, ensuring lessons learned benefit the broader business.


You can expect to be on-site at Sizewell C typically 2-3 days per week. 


The Skills


You’ll be a lawyer who has experience of delivering complex construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects with a hands- on approach. 


You’ll be strategic- minded, with strong commercial acumen and excellent negotiation skills. 


Comprehensive knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts will be key. 


You’ll need to be admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction.
