Job description

WHAT YOULL DO Successful applicants can expect to have high quality training in all aspects interventional cardiology. All labs are well provisioned and across the Wessex region, 90% of cases are undertaken via the radial approach. The successful applicants can expect to have exposure and training in IVUS, OCT, and advanced intracoronary physiology using various technologies. Recannalisation of chronic total occlusions is a major interest within each department. Each lab is fully equipped with rotational atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy. In all trusts, the successful candidate will receive advanced training in percutaneous coronary intervention in both acute and stable patients. All have established CTO programmes and perform complex CHIP angioplasty. There will be a weekly outpatient clinic for complex PCI patients and the post holder will be responsible for running a weekly angio review session as well as preparing the cardiac surgical MDT. There is an active research program across the region and within all trusts and the successful applicant will be encouraged to support ongoing trials and to develop their own research interests. It is expected that the successful candidate will submit abstracts to major national and international cardiology meetings. It is recognised that audit and assessment of quality and patient experience are essential for optimal service delivery and these form an integral component of this position. For a candidate with suitable experience, UHS offers a post formally training in all aspects of TAVI, within our expanding structural interventional programme. This also include exposure to percutaneous edge: edge repair techniques as appropriate. WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR It is expected that successful candidates will have hold an NTN and completed their core cardiology training and are formally training in interventional cardiology as a subspecialty. We would welcome applicants that have completed formal registrar training. There is an on-call commitment, and the post-holder will require to be fully trained in non-invasive cardiology (including trans thoracic echocardiography, with experience in trans-oesophageal echocardiography), diagnostic catheterization, pacing (both temporary and permanent and all aspects of general clinical cardiology. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process. Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay) Basic Salary - MT04 Basic Salary MT05 £63,152 Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5; Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee) Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
