Job Title: Management Accountant
Location: Portsmouth
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and experienced Management Accountant to play a key role in the financial management and growth of a locally based Trust in Portsmouth.
This role will include managing accounting systems, providing expert financial advice to key stakeholders, overseeing critical financial activities such as budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role also involves leading internal audits, managing payroll, and nurturing talent within the finance team for high performance.

Key Responsibilities will include:
Financial:
- Lead the audit of the statutory annual accounts for the Trust and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Manage returns to external bodies such as the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and HMRC.
- Oversee VAT returns and manage all aspects of VAT for the Trust.
- Manage financial obligations related to pension schemes according to regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely production of accurate monthly management accounts, quarterly reforecasting, cash flow forecasts, and consolidated balance sheets.
- Support the Chief Finance and Operations Officer in budget preparation and reporting.
- Maintain responsibility for the Trust's cash flow, investments, and fixed asset register.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of all Trust bank accounts and balance sheet control accounts.
- Implement and review financial policies and controls and facilitate audit arrangements.
- Oversee academies' payment systems and debt management.
Procurement and Contracts:
- Oversee the preferred supplier register and monitor purchasing procedures to ensure best value for money.
- Ensure compliance with the Trust's procurement strategy.
- Manage payroll procedures and relationships with providers.
Line Management:
- Full line management of the Finance Team, including objective setting, appraisals, and CPD.
- Provide professional guidance and support to the Finance Team.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and safeguarding policies.
- Attend relevant meetings and perform other tasks as requested by the Chief Finance and Operations Officer.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
- Experience in financial management and accounting, preferably within the education sector or a similar non-profit environment.
- Proven experience in managing audits, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of VAT, payroll, and pension schemes.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in line management and developing finance teams for high performance.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office suite.
