Role Overview:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to secondary-aged students and young adults with various SEND including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Down Syndrome, and Physical Disabilities. Working closely with experienced educators and professionals, you will contribute to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEND in classroom settings, ensuring they are engaged and able to participate in learning activities.
- Assist teachers in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapting teaching materials to suit the needs of students.
- Support students with personal care tasks if required, in a respectful and dignified manner.
- Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their social and emotional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to ensure continuity of care and support for students both in school and at home.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviours, reporting any concerns to the SENCO or appropriate staff members.
Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals with SEND, preferably within a school or educational setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of various SEND conditions including ASD, MLD, SLD, Down Syndrome, and Physical Disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
- Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach towards supporting individuals with diverse needs.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing demands of the role.
