GE Grid Solutions, Grid Systems Integration (GSI) are looking for a Tendering (ITO) Primary Design Engineer (Layout Engineer) to prepare our High Voltage AC and DC substation tenders (bids/opportunities).
The candidate will be based in our Stafford office 2 days per week and will manage all aspects of the Primary Engineering Works on tenders, including but not limited to: preparation of 3D and 2D AUTOCAD / Revit layout designs from Employers Requirements, bill of materials, technical commentary, Programme, risk assessment, liaising with design consultants and civil contractors, supporting the sourcing team.

Job Description
The Role
The candidate will join the North Europe tendering team and have the opportunity to work with our diverse team of designers, engineers, and bid managers in preparing bids for High Voltage AC & DC substations and Offshore windfarms, battery energy storage and green hydrogen production opportunities to support the Green Energy Transition.
The role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with a good knowledge of the tendering bid process and possess a deep understanding of High Voltage AC & DC substations layout design and high voltage switchgear and plant.
Details:
- Design optimised AIS / GIS substation and building layouts ensuring compliance to customer requirements while adhering to the process and business strategy.
- Review electrical and mechanical clearances in layouts from a safety, maintenance, and installation aspect.
- Responsible for ensuring all necessary design reviews including CDM / HAZID’s are carried out for layout solutions.
- Presenting engineering options to internal stake holders and customers
- Manage CAD drafting subcontractors’ workloads, schedules, and monitor quality.
- Work closely and co-ordinate with customers, application engineers, contract engineers, and bid managers.
- Attend site to conduct surveys,
- Participate in meetings and discuss engineering solutions.
- Review Employers Requirements (works instructions and equipment specifications) and develop clause by clause analysis to support future project systems engineering.
- Support the development of tender plans, engineering estimates and prepare and bills of materials.
- Checking supplier equipment general arrangement drawings ensuring compliance to customer specifications.
- Provide technical clarification to customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to aid efficient delivery of tenders.
- Generate M&E site installation packs, drawings, and 3D model packs for costing purposes.
- Work in accordance with national, international standards, processes and Health and Safety standards.
- Provide engineering support to GE sales and after sales teams.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proficient with Autodesk CAD tools AutoCAD, Revit & Navisworks and Microsoft Office suite.
- In-depth design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
- Keen aptitude towards technical analysis and problem solving.
- Good knowledge and understanding of layout and primary equipment for substation projects.
- Determined work ethic with an emphasis on taking the initiative, responsibility, and ownership.
- Knowledge of High Voltage DC design desirable, but not essential.
- Fluent oral and written English.
