Job Description
Job Purpose: You will be responsible for the overall development and leadership of one of our flagship children’s foster homes. You will provide effective nurturing leadership of a team to ensure that every day children feel safe, loved and cared for; are learning, curious, able to play, to challenge, to explore who they are and what they are good at.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide effective and inspirational leadership to our team in the therapeutic children's home.
- Using the training we give you, infuse a trauma-informed and therapeutic approach into all activities, fostering a nurturing environment.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality care in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, local authorities, and healthcare and education professionals.
- Uphold the highest standards of emotional, social, and physical care, promoting the best outcomes for children.
- Ensure the physical environment is safe, and risk assessments are conducted and adhered to by all staff.
- Foster positive relationships with the local community and external partners.
- Support, train, and develop staff, ensuring a dynamic, trauma-informed, and therapeutic training program.
- Provide regular supervision, appraisal, and development opportunities for staff.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of staff.
- Ensure regular review and update of children’s care and support plans.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures, taking necessary actions to mitigate risks.
- Foster collaboration for educational achievement and attainment, working closely with the Educational Lead.
- Develop and maintain operational systems, impact research, and ongoing outcomes monitoring.
- Operate within budget constraints, following financial procedures.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and returns for Ofsted and other stakeholders.
The post holder will also:
- Contribute to supporting the overall achievement of our strategy
- Undertake any additional and ad hoc tasks as required
- Actively contribute in team meetings and other activities as required
- Represent the organisation in a professional manner
- Work within an EDI framework, adhere to all the organisation's policies, procedures and working practices.

Personal qualities:
- You will be adept at bouncing back and a vast capacity for flexibility whilst retaining the boundaries children need to feel safe and nurtured.
- You will be creative, solution focused, curious and always playful at heart.
- You will be able to show every child, no matter how they present that day, that they are valued, loved, and worthy of all the wonderful things life can offer. And if that isn’t enough, you can extend this to your staff team even when they’ve not been at their best.
- You will know that taking a moment for tea and homemade brownies can sometimes be what is needed - the form filling can wait until later.
Qualifications
- Higher degree
- Ongoing learning and training throughout career
Essential experience
- Significant experience of managing and leading teams.
- Experience of working with children and young people.
- Experience of budget management and financial planning (desirable).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent leadership, management and mentoring skills.
- Evidenced ability to learn and use therapeutic approaches to working with children.
- Evidenced ability to gain knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Strong IT skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and on own initiative.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, young people, their families and other stakeholders.

Other Requirements:
- Flexibility to work unsocial hours and participate in the on-call rota.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
- Full driving licence.
