Head of Music

Ernesford Grange Community Academy

Location

Coventry | United Kingdom

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to lead music across our academy. At Ernesford, we believe that music is the heart of a community, it allows young people to experience areas of humanities, develop self-expression, and enhance cognitive function. In this role you will be working closely with a talented, hardworking, and supportive team in Performing Arts, and you will have the opportunity to develop and lead the music curriculum moving forward.

Music is taught at KS3 and KS4 with potential to continue to Sixth Form. We have a team of Peripatetic staff offering lessons currently allowing 30 students to access instrumental lessons, but numbers are growing each year and enrichment clubs are humming with eager young musicians. We work closely with Coventry Music, taking students into the city to perform and collaborate with other local schools to develop cultural capital opportunities for our students. It is a really exciting time to join the music department and play a key role in developing the department and growing the influence of music across our school.

As a successful candidate, you will be an excellent musician and classroom practitioner with a keen interest in developing leadership skills and innovative pedagogical practices. You will be responsible for developing and teaching the curriculum at KS3 and KS4 where we currently teach Eduqas Level 2 Performing Arts Vocational Qualification in Music Performance. You will be able to organise and lead a timetable of Music enrichment clubs and you will be responsible for organising, in collaboration with the rest of the Performing Arts team, school concerts and productions. You will be confident in managing peripatetic staff and timetabling instrumental lessons. You will be committed to giving students outstanding opportunities to perform and engage in music-making.

We want our students to have the very best opportunities and are therefore looking for a Head of Music who shares our vision.
