Job description
The Role:
The Head of Technical and Compliance is responsible for ensuring that each of our clients manufacturing sites produce safe, legal, sustainable, authentic and high-quality foods to specification whilst maintaining standards in budget control, H&S and customer satisfaction.
The Head of Technical and Compliance works closely with other departments including Operations, NPD, Logistics, Procurement and Sales Orders to provide a holistic service to our internal and external customers.
Member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting into the MD, based in Northern Ireland.
Head of Technical and Compliance Duties :
- Putting staff Welfare and Food safety first in all decision
- Retailer and BRCGS Audit management
- Food Specific Legal compliance
- Compliance to customer requirements and standards
- Service Supplier management
- Maintain a high standard of Health and Safety Standards across all sites
- Keeping up to date and Horizon scanning for food safety and legality concerns
- Facilitate the day-to-day Technical Management of ingredient approval, food production and distribution
- Lead the HACCP Team
- Management of a large multidisciplinary team within the Technical and Compliance department
- Lead the Technical and Compliance function to ensure they are engaged high performing with a focus on problem solving and teamwork.
- Manage and assist the sustainability and H&S functions on site
- Manage the resolution and close of of issues / incidents which have been escalated
- Identify and implement best practice within the Technical and Compliance function to help facilitate business improvements
- Accountable for ensuring that new products and processes are introduced to site that are safe, legal and compliant with a customer requirements and on time
- Develop and maintain a positive proactive relationship with key retail and export customers
- Chair monthly technical meetings
- Set and report on relevant KPIS and objectives
- Work closely with Operations team to achieve best results for food safety and efficiency
- Ensure all product specifications are continually reviewed and in line with customer requirements, agreed brand standards, operational capabilities and agreed cost standards.
- Drive Lean Manufacture and continuous improvement across the Technical and compliance team
- Work closely with and facilitate the business sport and IT functions of the site to introduce digital transformation to technical administration.
- Contribute to the culture team and help to create an environment where we retain our teams and nurture them to be the best versions of themselves at work
- Support projects to meet site sustainability and H&S targets
Required Skills and Competencies
Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in a food manufacturing environment
Experience in effective BRCGS and Retailer Audit management.
Effective and proven project management skills
Strong people and time management skills
Firm decision making
KPIs – Targets to be reviewed Annually and results reported monthly at the SLT Meeting.
