Job description
What you will do in your working day
- Prepare feasibility estimates, cost plans, Bills of quantities and Specifications using computer techniques and modern standards
- Prepare subcontract tenders, evaluate returns and produce comparisons for review with the SQS
- On site management of day-to-day cost activities
- Remeasuring and valuing subcontract works
- Monitor provisional sums and ensure costs are recouped through the contract
- Monitor site activities and value works are completed to date to help in the production of internal/external valuations
- Monitor materials on site and value each month
- Carry out tasks competently within determined timescales
- Carry out other tasks as required by the SQS or management team
- Facilitate good working relationships with clients, internal staff and subcontractors
- Comply with European Directives, UK procurement legislation and any client contract standing orders, financial regulations and delegations to officers
Please note this role will be 80% site based in Menston, and 20% based at Huddersfield Head Office.
The training you will be getting
- The successful candidate will work towards a Level 4 Apprentice Quantity Surveyor Qualification, which will take place at Leeds College of Building, and will take 36 months plus EPA (End Point Assessment)
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- With experience, you could become a senior quantity surveyor or move into senior project management, supply chain management, consultancy work or self-employment. You could specialise in areas like planning, risk assessment or contract disputes.
