An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Governance Officer who will play an important role ensuring that the fund is compliant with all LGPS regulations and other legislative/regulatory requirements, including the Pensions Regulator new General Code.
The role, reporting to the Chief Officer for Bedfordshire Pension Fund, will lead on all governance and regulatory matters for the Bedfordshire Pension Fund, including policy development and management, support to the Local Pension Board and lead on ad hoc projects.
The post holder will provide expert advice on technically demanding and complex pension fund governance and regulatory matters to the Council in its role as Administering Authority and liaise with external advisors, the Independent Chair and Members of the Local Pensions Board to deliver the programme of work.
Specific responsibilities include supporting the Local Pensions Board and preparing agendas/reports, maintain the risk management framework, development of structured training programme, development of policies and procedures in respect of new regulations and guidance, coordination of the Business Plan including performance indicators and budget, and lead on implementation of ad-hoc projects such as the Good Governance.
The Person
We are looking for an experienced CCAB or CIMA qualified finance professional, who has initiative and can develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders of all levels to provide appropriate governance advice and services. Experience and understanding of governance and Local Government Pension Scheme regulations is essential. You must be able to work at pace and have excellent communication skills as you will be writing and presenting reports to members and senior officers regularly.
The role is full-time (37 hours), applications for part-time working will be considered. The Council is committed to offering you a good work-life balance, which includes its flexitime and agile working arrangements, including working from home. Two days a week is expected to be spent in the office as a minimum, though there is the option to work in the office every day if desired.
