About us

The Network Management Service includes three teams: Network Coordination, Civil Parking Enforcement and Traffic Control. The Network Coordination function ensures the smooth running of the network, coordinates utility, developer and private work on the highway, manages performance and minimises disruption to the travelling public, under the Oxfordshire Permit Scheme.

About the role

We are looking for 2 Assistant Officers within the Network Coordination Team to undertake inspections of streetworks to ensure works comply with the Oxfordshire Permit Scheme conditions and other relevant legislation, such as the New Roads & Street Works Act and various Codes of Practice.

The posts will report directly to area Senior Officers and the Team Leader – (Operations) Network Coordination and will provide support for Officers and Senior Officers in meeting inspection targets and dealing with live works issues on the Oxfordshire highway network.

About you

You should have an interest in working as a streetworks inspector and be willing to undertake internal and external training courses to obtain the necessary qualifications and industry accreditation to undertake the role effectively.

Whilst experience of working in the highway construction or streetworks utility industries would be advantageous, this role is open to people keen to learn new skills relevant to inspection of streetworks. This would include undertaking a Streetworks Supervisor accreditation course and learning about highway construction methods, to ensure industry road re-instatement standards are complied with by utility companies and their contractors.

You should be comfortable with lone working, driving a work van and engaging with streetworks operatives, members of the public and elected Members of Oxfordshire County Council.

Staff will be based at Ron Groves House in Kidlington, which is the base of operations, although you would be mostly mobile around the County, with occasional team meetings at the office.

Rewards and benefits

• Culture of flexible working
• Technology to support agile working where role permits
• 28 day’s holiday p.a. (increasing to 31 days holiday over 5 to 10 years employment), plus bank holidays
• Option to ‘buy’ additional holiday
• Employee Assistance Programme including access to health and wellbeing support
• Membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, with an employer’s contribution of up to 19.9%
• Enhanced family friendly policies
• Local and national discounts for shopping and travel
• Learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development
