ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

LEADERSHIP SPINE 13-17

PERMANENT

Start date for permanent role 1st September 2024

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and forward thinking Assistant Principal to lead our attendance strategy and pastoral interventions. This role has arisen due to the recent successful promotion of the Assistant Principal (Attendance and Enrichment) and our aim is to ensure we fill this role with an equally outstanding practitioner. This is an exceptional development opportunity for the right candidate who will play a leading role in raising standards in attendance, punctuality, behaviour and attitudes and other key areas in the Academy’s development plan as we move to become an outstanding Academy.

Responsibilities will be as per the attached , with a main focus on supporting the Vice Principal (Behaviour and Attitudes) and working alongside the Assistant Principal (Behaviour). The successful candidate will line manage a strong attendance team and other key staff within the pastoral system as well as maintaining oversight of one of our six faculties . In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for line managing the Alternative Provision and Student support strategy with the Vice Principal and Assistant Principal with specific responsibilities liaising with external agencies and further supporting and leading developments in our in-house Alternative provisions . The successful candidate will lead the development of our rewards and activities programmes to further improve attitudes and engagement in curriculum. Additional roles will be dependent on the strengths and expertise of the successful applicant as well as the emerging needs of the Academy as we further grow and develop.

Joseph Leckie Academy is a vibrant, exciting and innovative mixed 11-18 Converter Academ y with an overall positive progress score, and within the top 3 non-selective schools in Walsall every year since 2017.  With our excellent results and being graded as “Good” across all areas by Ofsted (October 2021) and our continual desire and drive to continue moving forward, this is an exciting time for you to join our team.

In our last Ofsted inspection, we received some excellent feedback and comments relating to our curriculum and the quality of our pastoral care. They we clear that we pride ourselves on our high expectations of all learners. They reported seeing a “calm learning environment where teachers can teach, and students can learn.” Ofsted also reported that we offer a “highly supportive environment” and are “committed to ensuring outstanding teaching, behaviour, progress and achievement.” They said, “staff are proud to work in this Academy.”

Ofsted further commented that: Pupils are proud of their school . Their attendance and punctuality are good. Pupils are safe. The school is calm and purposeful, and disruption to learning is rare. Few pupils underachieve and most flourish. Pupils of all abilities are enthusiastic learners who enjoy their learning .”

We are an expanding Academy and continue to be over- subscribed in all year groups, including our large Sixth form. The role of this appointment will be as per the attached information on the , although the precise leadership responsibilities will be confirmed upon appointment based on experience.
