A Vacancy at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our dedicated and conscientious team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and ambitious pharmacy technician to undertake this new exciting role.

Homecare Services

To work in partnership with the Chief Pharmacist, Principal Technician for Procurement, Stores and Distribution, clinical pharmacy team and homecare service providers to ensure safe, effective, economical and timely pharmaceutical care for all patients receiving medicines supply via a Homecare Service prescribed by CRH.

To lead, manage and develop the pharmacy operational technical service related to medicines homecare at CRH in line with RPS Standards, national good practice guidelines and local policy and procedures.

To support the delivery of a high-quality homecare medicines service by regular liaison with hospital medical, nursing and pharmacy staff, and representatives of homecare companies.

Governance

To work in partnership with the Chief Pharmacist, Medicines Safety Officer and Divisional Quality Governance Team to manage key governance systems within pharmacy (for example, dispensing near miss reporting). To support the Chief Pharmacist and Medicines Safety Officer to manage complaints, concerns, risks and incidents across the Pharmacy department.

Homecare services
1. Discuss complex information with clinical teams when querying prescriptions. Communicate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals regarding supply of products, homecare services and application of pharmacy procedures.
2. Responsible for the provision of KPI and operational data in relation to homecare provision, ensuring adherence to RPS standards. Responsible for the development of a capacity plan for the technical service, supporting additional funding requests when required.
3. Assist the Principal Pharmacy Technician to assure the safe and effective provision of Homecare services including the management of issues so that they can be resolved swiftly and appropriately.
4. Using initiative to manage the Homecare service in dealing with problematic supply chain issues and urgent pharmaceutical orders, analysing options, and making judgements so that patient safety is not compromised.
5. Oversees management, development and use of SOPs within Homecare Services and supports the development of Trust Policy in relation to Homecare Services.
6. Co-ordinates the CRH Homecare Service Review meetings ensuring all key stakeholders (clinical teams and Homecare service providers) are represented to review current performance and monitor progress with agreed actions.
7. Co-ordinated the annual audit against the RPS Homecare standards, developing an action plan in response to the audit and supporting the completion of actions relating to the delivery of the technical service.
8. Participate in local, regional and national Homecare group meetings to discuss and drive best practice and inform change.
9. Assists on medicines optimisation projects to improve quality and performance in the use of medicines and service delivery in line with Trust objectives.
10. Assists the Principal Pharmacy Technician in all areas pertaining to homecare medicines services at CRH.
11. Manage errors, complaints and incidents within Homecare Services in accordance with Trust Policy.
12. Lead training to the wider pharmacy department on issues pertaining to homecare medicines.

Governance
1. In collaboration with the Divisional Governance Team, collate, interpret and monitor key governance metrics and provide regular analysis and reports to the Pharmacy Safety and Risk Groups. Leads the collection and presentation of Quality Governance metrics as presented in the Pharmacy Governance Dashboard for reporting at Divisional Quality Governance meeting.
2. Responsible for managing the near miss dispensing error system in use across the department. This includes data collation, analysis, reporting and recommendations for improvements.
3. Provide leadership to promote appropriate reporting, investigation & sign off of pharmacy incidents and near misses.
4. Responsible for Departmental security arrangements (provision of keys, alarm codes etc). This includes maintaining up-to-date policies, training staff at induction and auditing our systems.
5. Supports the Principal Pharmacist (Medicines Safety Officer) to manage systems for: handling pharmacy complaints & concerns; maintaining the pharmacy risk register; incident reporting and investigation; mandatory training compliance; departmental health & safety compliance
6. Supports the Principal Pharmacist (Medicines Safety Officer) by providing information for and supporting the Pharmacy Risk and Safety Group meeting, including co-ordinating agendas and reports.
7. Provides governance related training to pharmacy staff on induction & when required. This includes training on the near miss dispensing error reporting system, Datix recording, undertakingrisk assessments and procedure writing.
8. Provides regular updates to the department on ‘learning from errors’ including newsletter articles, team briefs, presentations etc
9. Supports the Chief Pharmacist and Controlled Drug Accountable Officer to ensure the safe use of Controlled Drugs across the department and organisation by ensuring incidents are investigated appropriately and implementing actions as required by the Pharmacy Controlled Drugs Governance group.

General responsibilities
1. To undertake other duties as requested by the Head of Medicines Management.
2. To participate in Weekend and Bank Holiday working in accordance with departmental rotas.
3. To undertake continuing professional development and provide pharmacy technician services to the department through regular pharmacy practice.
4. To maintain confidentiality at all times relating to the patients, staff and the Trust.
5. To be familiar and comply with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol.
6. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to local infection control policies.
