Job description

I am working with a SEND School in Wigan who are looking for a Support Worker to join their team. This is a full time role, due to start after Easter.

The school provide high quality support and education to those students who cannot attend a mainstream school due to Severe Learning Difficulities (SLD) and complex psyhical and medical needs. The staff at this school work together to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment is provided for all studnets, regardless of their needs or abilities. The school recognises each student as an individual and offers a holistic approach to learning. In addition to this, the school is well equipped to ensure the day to day life of the school runs as smoothly as possible, the state of the art equipment includes sensory rooms, a hydro-therapy pool and hoisting equipment.

The Head Teacher needs a Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to work in the primary phase of the school, working with a small group of students with SLD. As the successful applicant, you will be expected to work under the direction of the class teacher, in a team with 2 other Support Workers / TAs. This will include working on both a 1:1 and small group basis, assisting with low level academic work and supporting students both physically and emotionally. You role will include adhering to Education Health Care Plans, reporting back to the class teacher, parents and on occassion, medical professionals. You will be expected to fulfill all aspects of this role, including parent’s evenings and staff meetings.

In order to apply for this role, it is essential you have:

– experience in either an education or a residential setting

– a passion for supporting Special Educational Needs 

– A DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for a new one

– 2 references dating over the past 12 months
