Location: The role is based within our Cardiff Office; but please note, Audit Wales has a hybrid approach to working, where some days will be in our office and there is an option to spend some days at home.

About the Role

Audit Wales is looking to recruit a Data Science Apprentice.
Are you interested in data and analytics? Do numbers and the stories they tell excite you? Do you like puzzles and problem solving? Have you ever wanted to learn how to code?

The future is a world driven by data and the ability to analyse and use data will be a key skill. So, if data analytics is something that interests you, then the Data Science Apprenticeship at Audit Wales may be what you are looking for.

And it’s not just an opportunity for someone starting out in the world of work. Maybe you are looking for a career change. There are no age restrictions. The apprenticeship is a fully funded three-year programme supporting you to achieve a degree in data science while developing valuable on the job experience.

We are looking for a highly motivated person to be part of our energetic and resilient Data Analytics team. You don’t need experience, just an aptitude, commitment and enthusiasm. In exchange you will receive a varied work programme and day release to study a degree in data science at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Who are Audit Wales

Audit Wales is the independent public sector audit body within Wales. We hold a unique position within the Welsh public sector, where our role is to:
Assure the people of Wales that public money is being managed well through our annual audit of public sector accounts.

Explain how public money is being used and how it meets people’s needs through our Value for Money studies.

Inspire and empower those with whom we work to continuously improve by sharing initiatives and best practice.

What its like to work in our Data Analytics Team

The Data Analytics team is responsible for improving all aspects of the way Audit Wales uses data. Your role will see you join a fast-paced team that has close links with all areas of the business. Day to day, you will be involved in delivering these core functions:

1. Lead research and development into innovative data techniques and tools.
2. Build impactful data tools and embed them as a new normal part of our work.
3. Drive modernisation of financial and performance audit by making it data enabled.
4. Centrally manage key datasets to ensure standard data is used for decision-making.
5. Work alongside audit and corporate teams to enable them to build ‘low-code’ data tools/products.
6. Screen all data products before publication as an additional quality control step.
7. Promote data literacy for all staff, to improve the data culture at Audit Wales.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship:

You must have a right to live and work in the UK
You are resident in Wales or your employer is based permanently in Wales
You have legally left school;
You intend to stay in employment for the next 12 months
You are not already been funded for other training courses by Welsh Government
You are being paid the relevant National Minimum Wage
You work more than 16 hours per week.
