St Giles Spencer Academy is an outstanding Primary Special Academy in Derby City. We are a warm, friendly and inclusive academy which meets the needs of pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.

Due to the retirement of our current post-holder, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lead Practitioner to join our inclusive school. You will play a key role in the overall leadership and management of the Academy, working in collaboration with the Principal and our leadership team, having a specific responsibility for safeguarding. You will be a Senior Leader and will have a responsibility for leading on safeguarding and pastoral across two school sites and be the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

You will have had experience of successful leadership and management in a school or relevant organisation as well as experience of managing safeguarding, building relationships with children and families, particularly the most vulnerable, working and communicating effectively with external agencies and implementing and encouraging good safeguarding practices throughout a large team of people.

You will work collaboratively with other Senior Leaders and the Wider Leadership team to support the Principal in the strategic and operational leadership and management of the Academy, promoting its ethos and culture of high expectations and acting as a visible ambassador for the Academy and Spencer Academies Trust. As a Senior Lead Practitioner (Safeguarding and Pastoral), you will undertake a range of organisational and supervisory duties and discharge routine leadership functions including the line management of other leaders within the school.

You will safeguard all pupils and promote and maintain the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff at all times and be the DSL across two school sites. With training if necessary, as a Senior Lead Practitioner, you should be able to assume responsibility and deal with day to day matters in the absence of the Principal. In addition, senior leaders will be expected to contribute to the Spencer Academies Trust, and support, where necessary, any of our Trust Schools.

This is a great opportunity for a leader who understands and is committed to the safety and welfare of children, and are both creative and motivated to support our pupils to become the very best they can be, both academically and socially.

If you want to be part of an innovative, forward thinking and outward facing special school; who are genuinely committed to investing in your professional development, then St Giles could be the academy for you.
