The Head and Trustees wish to appoint a SENCO to join our outstanding school. Our next SENCO must be a qualified teacher (in line with the Code), but this post can be either a teaching or non-teaching role. We ideally seek a full time practitioner, but would consider applications from colleagues wanting to work 0.8fte. Information about all these options is given in the application pack. The post will be paid on the MPS/UPS scale (with TLR) for a teaching post (any subject specialism will be considered) or NJC scale for a non-teaching post. Please include in your application which option you favour and any subject(s) you have taught previously, as required.
We welcome applications from colleagues with/without the national SEND qualification and will provide access to the required SENCO qualification if necessary.
We are a highly successful selective girls school. The number of pupils with SEND is low compared to national standards (circa 5% of the cohort) and we have three students with EHCPs. The successful candidate will work with a small team of Teaching Assistants to coordinate provision, ensure all students with SEND make good progress and lead staff training in matters related to SEND. Our current SENCO is stepping down from the role to focus on other things but will remain teaching at NGHS and will be able to offer any handover support that is necessary.
We are very much a family and a team at NGHS; our colleagues work exceptionally hard to help each student to achieve their potential and they also support each other. We take staff well-being extremely seriously and our Well-being Charter is included in this pack to show you what we do.
NGHS is an outstanding girls’ grammar school. We were very recently inspected by Ofsted in November 2022 and the school was judged outstanding in every category, placing us in the top 3% of schools. Please read the report here ; you will see why we are so proud of our staff and students. We are also the 2020 West Midlands Secondary School of the Year and have recently won a number of accolades rewarding our work in supporting Mental Health, Holocaust Education, the Be Kind Award and the AcSEED Award.
Our governing body is incredibly supportive and experienced. Their drive and ambition for the school keeps us on our toes, but they are passionate about enhancing opportunities for all students. There is a link SEND governor who is an experienced practitioner in this field. We are heavily oversubscribed and hold an annual entrance test. We have, on average, 120 girls in each year group. The sixth form is also oversubscribed and we take students from a number of 11-16 and 11-18 high schools as well, of course, as our own Year 11s.
Importantly, NGHS believes in offering an all-round education and the successful applicant will be committed to extra-curricular opportunities. S/he will be encouraged to contribute to the school’s varied programme.
Please contact Executive Head, Mr M J Scott, for any more information via [email protected]. If you wish to visit the school prior to application this can be arranged with our Head of School via the [email protected] email address.
