Job description
You may be working in an office or on a ward; you will have empathy for people who are mentally unwell; you will want to help ensure that all detentions/deprivations of liberty are lawful.
In this post you will be liaising with doctors, nurses, patients, relatives, and advocates; you will be keeping accurate records and sending reminders.
You will be collecting recommendations for change and improvements, doing some audits and reporting to committees.

Management of DoLS Administration for the Trust
To be responsible for the upkeep of the MCA DoLS Database and related registers
Assist Trust MCA Lead to provide training and guidance to ward staff
To assist in the induction and supervision of new and temporary staff
To provide cover for other MHA Co-ordinator at other Trust sites when required.

To ensure the effective operation of the MHA/MCA Act within the Trust through monitoring and developing office procedures where required
To assist with Associate Hospital Managers Hearings when required
To scrutinise of DoLS papers and arrange amendments when required
To take all necessary steps to ensure that all detentions are lawful and to action Trust procedures in the event of potentially unlawful situations
To notify the line manager of any irregularity with statutory documentation which may result in unlawful detention
To respond to queries and provide advice on the Mental Capacity Act to clinicians, patients, relatives, representatives and Associate Hospital Managers as required
To communicate with patients, carers, staff, Associate Hospital Managers and outside agencies.
To assist the Trust MCA Lead in training for wards and community clinical teams
To be responsible for the upkeep of the MCA DoLS Database and related registers.
To assist the MCA Lead in providing appropriate quarterly and yearly statistics and data relating to the use and operation of the Mental Capacity Act, by the required date, for the Trust Board and Department of Health
To provide additional data to the Trust MCA Lead as required
To participate in local MCA Forums and Trust Policy Groups as required
To co-ordinate and support the appropriate preparations for visits of the Mental Health Act Commission/CQC.
To alert the Line Manager to any operational difficulties
